About DataCloud

DataCloud’s management team consists of seasoned international executives with deep domain expertise in the extractive resource industries.  What is unique about the team is the breadth of its collective skills.  In addition to its subsurface expertise, the management team also contains individuals who’ve pioneered the development of cloud architecture and analytical tools for these industries.

Management Team

Thor Kallestad

Thor is a former Schlumberger Anadrill Field Engineer. He has worked extensively on the North Slope, in the North Sea, and offshore Africa, in addition to numerous other locations.  He spent the bulk of his oilfield career on rigs, drilling several high profile wells and conducting field tests on new equipment. Upon leaving Schlumberger, Thor worked as a drill site manager and led corporate development and commercial efforts for a startup E&P. He is an Eagle Scout, a Petroleum Engineer, and has an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.

Daniel Palmer
International Advisor

Daniel spent over 20 years working for Schlumberger in operations, management, strategy, and sales and marketing roles across the globe. He was closely involved in the deployment of real-time operations and other new technologies for Schlumberger. Daniel’s expertise of oilfield technology and subsurface resource characterization is instrumental in helping DataCloud design the disruptive, cutting edge and efficient software tools it is building. He has a Masters Degree in Electrical and Information Engineering from the University of Cambridge.

Krishna Srinivasan

Krishna is an innovative data scientist with an impressive background in analytics and cloud architecture. He has designed and managed the implementation of numerous cloud platforms for industrial clients in which reliability, accuracy, and scalability have been mandatory requirements. Krishna works very closely with DataCloud’s team of geoscience and drilling experts to convert their domain expertise into readily deployed answer products that exist in Azure. He has a Masters degree in Data Science and Industrial Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, in addition to an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.

Emmanuel Bize
Principal Geologist

Emmanuel is a former Schlumberger Geology Domain Leader. He worked extensively in Brazil, Continental Europe, and North Africa. Prior to these roles, Emmanuel worked as a Senior Research Scientist at Schlumberger’s Dhahran Carbonate Research Center. Emmanuel’s expert interpretation of petrophysical logs provides the framework for many of the mining and E&P geological tools DataCloud builds. He has a DEA in Sedimentology from the University of Claude Bernard Lyon 1 in France.

Allan Campbell
Principal Geophysicist

Allan has over 25 years of experience working for Schlumberger, where he was primarily focused on acquiring, processing, and interpreting borehole seismic data. He has spent considerable time using Vertical Seismic Profiling (VSP) to analyze fractures and extract elastic wave properties. Allan’s extensive experience with borehole seismic also includes roles guiding VSP software development and generating high-resolution images. He has a Bachelors of Science  degree in Geophysics from the University of Calgary.

Vagmi Mudumbai
VP Development, Mining

Vagmi is a resourceful full stack engineer with significant experience using languages and platforms such as Ruby, Go, Elixir, Javascript, Swift, PostgreSQL, C#, and Android. Because such coding versatility has afforded him a unique perspective as to how good software should be written, Vagmi is responsible for all of DataCloud’s application development efforts. He has a Bachelors of Science degree in Physics and a Masters in Information Technology from the University of Madras, in addition to an MBA from the SP Jain School of Global Management.

Matt Larkin
VP Sales

Matt was the driving force behind the creation of DataCloud. Via a political surveying and marketing business he owns, Matt was an early pioneer in developing techniques to apply Microsoft’s advanced analytical tools and predict voter patterns and consumer habits. These predictive methods became the foundation of what DataCloud has built for its resource clients. Matt is currently in charge of DataCloud’s sales and marketing efforts. He has a BBA from the University of Georgia.

Mike Miller
VP Operations, E&P

Mike has over 30 years experience as a senior BP manager, during which time he has managed numerous drilling groups, exploration campaigns, and wells teams. He has also been responsible for designing multiple new rigs and has subsequently overseen their construction. Mike has extensive drilling expertise in a variety of formations using both fluid and pneumatic circulating systems and he is an expert on the topic of well control and the developing field of predictive maintenance. He has a Petroleum Engineering degree from the Colorado School of Mines.

Mahendra Rajan
VP Development, E&P

Mahendra is an insightful full stack engineer with extensive experience building modern, born in the cloud, software. He is an expert in Apache Hadoop, Apache Pig, Python, and Go. He has used these skills to build two SaaS products, Empwise and AgileGreen. Additionally, Mahendra is highly adept with Database technologies such as MySQL, SQLServer. PostgreSQL and RethinkDB. These skills allow Mahendra to very quickly determine the optimal way to develop the innovative cloud-hosted software DataCloud builds for its resource industry clients. Mahendra has a Masters of Electrical Engineering degree from the College of Engineering, Guindy.

Doug Kirkby
Engineering Manager, Mining

Doug is a former Schlumberger Wireline Field Engineer. Over an impressive career, he has managed extensive logging operations in remote locations, launched the real-time operations facility in the North Sea, and supported numerous high profile operations across the globe while stationed in Paris, France. Doug is responsible for all of DataCloud’s field measurement, engineering, and real-time operations. He has a First Class Honors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University in Ontario.


Trevor Cox
VP Business Development and General Counsel

Trevor is the Founder and Managing Partner of the Eisbach Group.  He has worked in strategy, corporate development, M&A, legal, and business transformation roles for various Silicon Valley data-focused technology companies.  Trevor’s expert insight into the evolution of the big data analytics industry has proved invaluable for DataCloud’s ability to create value for its clients and investors.  He has an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley and a JD from the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific.  


Jamie Rector
Geophysics Advisor

Jamie is a tenured professor of Geophysics at the University of California, Berkeley. He has founded and sold several high-tech seismic companies and been an expert witness in IP cases on digital signal processing technology. Jamie has earned prestigious academic awards including the Legends of Seismic While Drilling Award and the J. Clarence Karcher Award. He has been a principal in oil and gas investment funds and served as a board director for publicly traded companies. Jamie holds a Masters of Science Degree and a PhD in Geophysics from Stanford University.

Michael Parker

Michael is an investor with more than 20 years of experience managing private equity and other investment funds and partnerships on behalf of institutions and very high net worth family offices. He led DataCloud’s Series A round. In addition to serving as DataCloud’s Chairman, Michael continues to serve as a Director on the Boards of several portfolio companies in the US. He has a JD from the University of Georgia and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
