DataCloud opens Office in Perth, Western Australia to Support its Growing Operations
August 20, 2018 – Seattle, WA – DataCloud, the leading real-time geoscience technology company serving the global mining industry, today opened an office in Perth, Western Australia to accommodate client demand in the region. DataCloud’s impressive lineup of subsurface measurement sensors and supporting software coincides with the growing demand for smart-mining tools in the Pilbara. Thor Kallestad, DataCloud Chief Executive Officer, says, “We are profoundly invested in Australia’s intelligent mining future. A Perth office was inevitable, and we are thrilled to be working alongside leading companies in the area to help them realize their smart mining objectives over the years ahead.”
DataCloud proudly introduces Tamer Eid, its President of the Australia and Asia regions. Tamer will lead DataCloud’s business activities in these locations while continuing its mission of mastering the subsurface throughout the area. Tamer has over 18 years of international experience in the Natural Resources Sector, working with the world’s leading mining and oil and gas companies. Tamer holds a Bachelor of Engineering with Honors from the University of Western Australia and MBA’s from Columbia and London Business Schools. He is a Chartered engineer.

DataCloud will be based in the Core Innovation Hub, on St. George’s Terrace, in the middle of the Central Business District. CORE Innovation Hub is Australia’s first resources and energy sector focused hub. They deliver an environment that drives new enterprise to help address the industry’s evolving challenges. Emma Veenema, CORE Community Director, says, “We are pleased to welcome DataCloud to the CORE Community and look forward to supporting their growth into Australia. Their technical expertise will bring valuable knowledge into our community.”
DataCloud has developed a transformative suite of IoT sensors and supporting Azure-hosted, SaaS-delivered products, that provide mine site operators a high resolution understanding of their ore bodies and rock benches in real-time.
DataCloud’s field-proven technologies include MinePortal™, a cloud-hosted earth model platform, RHINO™, an IoT high resolution, geoscience logging tool, and DigitalGeology™, an image recognition software. These real-time technologies help mine operators to truly Know the Rock™, so they can achieve:
1. greater mill throughput via improved fragmentation,
2. increased mineral recovery via knowledge of ore / waste boundaries,
3. an improved environmental footprint, and
4. a stronger license to operate
With the combined capabilities of these three core products, mining companies in the region can now process massive volumes of drilling and geosciences data to create actionable insights that produce dramatic improvements in ore body delineation and fragmentation. And by analyzing all of this critical rock data in real-time, mine operators can make better, faster drilling and blasting decisions that materially improve productivity, and ultimately strengthen profitability.
Tamer Eid, Datacloud’s President for Australia and Asia states, “Australian miners have demonstrated their adoption of technology to improve the safety, efficiency and productivity of their mining operations. The suite of products and services DataCloud provides will help miners make informed, real-time decisions on their ore body that can be used to improve throughput, grade and overall operating costs for their mining operations. As Thor has stated, this is really a game changer for the industry.”
